Introducing the NEW ICM492DX

Smarter, More Accurate Single-Phase Voltage Protection

Electrical equipment depends on consistent, reliable power to operate efficiently. However, voltage fluctuations, unexpected power interruptions, and rapid short cycling can put valuable equipment at risk, potentially leading to costly repairs, premature component failure, and unnecessary downtime.

At ICM Controls, we’re committed to developing innovative solutions that help protect equipment, simplify installation, and give technicians greater control over electrical system performance.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce the NEW ICM492DX Single-Phase Digital Line Voltage Monitor, the upgraded replacement for the trusted ICM492D.

Building on the proven voltage protection capabilities of its predecessor, the ICM492DX introduces enhanced technology, improved usability, and additional features designed to deliver dependable performance across a wide range of applications.

What’s New? ICM492DX vs. ICM492D

The ICM492D has long provided reliable protection against potentially damaging voltage conditions. The new ICM492DX takes that protection further with several key enhancements designed to improve accuracy, durability, and the overall user experience.

  1. New Displayed Voltage Calibration Feature – One of the most valuable enhancements is the ability to calibrate the displayed voltage reading to match the RMS value measured by a voltmeter. This feature gives technicians greater flexibility when comparing the monitor’s displayed voltage with their test equipment. The advantage: Improved diagnostic confidence and a more consistent voltage-reading experience during installation and troubleshooting.
  2. Expanded Control and Configuration Options – The ICM492DX offers user-adjustable settings that allow technicians to customize how the device responds to electrical conditions. Key settings include:
    • Adjustable overvoltage protection: 90–300 VAC
    • Adjustable undervoltage protection: 70–280 VAC
    • Anti-short-cycle delay: 15–720 seconds
    • Adjustable fault response delay: 0–10 seconds
    • Reset options: Automatic reset or a configurable limit of up to 10 attempts
    • Optional control mode: Enables integration with an external control signal
    • Language selection: English or Spanish

Together, these capabilities give technicians flexibility to configure voltage protection around the requirements of the equipment and installation.

  1. Extended Fault History: From 5 to 50 Faults – The ICM492DX delivers a significant upgrade in diagnostic capabilities, expanding fault history memory from just 5 faults on the ICM492D to 50 faults on the new ICM492DX. This tenfold increase in fault memory gives technicians greater visibility into previous voltage-related issues, making it easier to identify recurring electrical problems and troubleshoot intermittent faults that may not be present during a service visit. With access to a more extensive fault history, technicians can better understand equipment operating conditions, identify potential power quality concerns, and make more informed service decisions.

The advantage: Ten times the fault history capacity for improved troubleshooting, faster diagnostics, and greater insight into recurring voltage issues.

Why Single-Phase Line Voltage Monitoring Matters

Power quality plays a critical role in the performance and longevity of electrical equipment. Even brief voltage disturbances can disrupt normal operation and place unnecessary stress on sensitive components.

A single-phase line voltage monitor acts as a protective safeguard, continuously evaluating incoming voltage and controlling a relay when electrical conditions move outside acceptable limits.

The ICM492DX helps address three common electrical challenges.

Undervoltage: Protecting Equipment from Low-Voltage Conditions

Undervoltage occurs when incoming power drops below the acceptable operating range.

For motor-driven equipment, sustained low voltage can lead to increased current draw under certain operating conditions, excessive heat, and potential motor damage.

The ICM492DX monitors incoming voltage and can interrupt the connected control circuit when voltage falls below the selected threshold, helping prevent continued operation during potentially damaging conditions.

Overvoltage: Reducing Stress on Electrical Components

Excessive voltage can place added stress on motors, controls, and other electrical components.

By detecting voltage that exceeds the programmed limit, the ICM492DX can change its relay state to interrupt equipment operation until acceptable conditions are restored and the configured reset requirements are satisfied.

Rapid Short Cycling: Preventing Repeated Equipment Restarts

Short cycling can occur when power is interrupted and restored repeatedly within a short period.

For compressors and other motor-driven equipment, repeated starts can create significant mechanical and electrical stress.

The ICM492DX includes an adjustable anti-short-cycle delay that helps prevent rapid restarts following power interruptions or voltage faults.

Its adjustable fault response delay can also help reduce nuisance trips caused by brief voltage disturbances.

The bottom line: Single-phase voltage monitoring is an important part of a comprehensive equipment protection strategy. By detecting abnormal power conditions before allowing continued operation, the ICM492DX helps reduce the risk of avoidable equipment damage, service calls, and downtime.
