Pay Range:
$65,000 – $85,000
Purpose:
The Product Compliance Engineer serves as the liaison between internal engineering teams and external certification agencies to support new product development and sustaining engineering activities. This role provides technical leadership for product compliance and certification efforts by interpreting regulatory and safety standards, supporting product design reviews, resolving compliance-related technical issues, and maintaining product certifications throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison between internal engineering teams and external certification agencies and testing laboratories (UL, CSA, Intertek, etc.).
- Lead certification activities for new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
- Determine and interpret applicable regulatory and safety standards for products and communicate requirements to engineering teams.
- Manage agency inspections, follow-up actions, and certification documentation.
- Evaluate engineering changes, product documentation, and technical literature for compliance impact.
- Monitor changes to applicable industry and agency standards and communicate impacts to relevant stakeholders.
- Work with engineering and sourcing teams to maintain approved sources for agency-recognized critical components.
- Lead cross-functional efforts to troubleshoot and resolve compliance and certification issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance processes and certification workflows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 2+ years of engineering, manufacturing, compliance, or product certification experience preferred; co-op and internship experience considered.
- Experience working with certification agencies such as UL, CSA, Intertek, or other nationally recognized testing laboratories (NRTLs) preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of electrical/electronic products, components, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and apply regulatory standards to product designs and engineering changes.
- Strong organizational, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
